Dear
Karen,
Welcome
to the January 2007 edition of the Self Discovery newsletter and Happy
New Year.
The question I have been asked many times over the last couple of
weeks is "what are your New Year's resolutions?" So, I thought this
would be a great theme to allow you to focus on what you want and help
you to achieve your aspirations in 2007.

Get motivated in
2007 |

It's the time of year when many of us make New Year's resolutions.
But first of all, let's reflect on 2006.
How many resolutions did you set?
What were your resolutions?
And how many did you achieve?
Although we often set out with good intentions at the start of the
year, it is very easy to lose focus and break our resolutions
within the first couple of days. Then we may feel demoralised or
frustrated with our lack of achievement.
So, how can you set yourself up to achieve success?
1. My first tip would be forget the 'should do's', 'oughts to's',
and 'must do's' and set yourself goals that you really want
to achieve and be clear about why you want to achieve them. This
will help you to develop resolutions with which you are totally
committed and motivated to achieve.
2. When you have decided what you want to achieve, consider how
you can phrase the goals positively. This will help you to move
you towards what you want, rather than away from what you don't
want and enable you to maintain focus. Setting yourself time
limits will help you to plan and monitor your achievement.
3. Make your goals realistic and achievable. If your goals seem
too big they will appear impossible to achieve. So you may find it
easier to break them down into manageable chunks that are more
within your control.
4. Next, write down your goals and pin them up somewhere you will
see everyday. This will help you to regularly focus on your
objectives.
5. Consider how you will feel once you have achieved your ultimate
goals. What will you see? What will you hear? How will you feel?
Spending time visualising yourself achieving your goals can be a
great motivator and really spur you on.
6. You may want to get support for your goals. Tell a partner,
friend or colleague who can support you to achieve your targets
and celebrate your successes.

Another great tip |
|
 |
So, what are you waiting for? Your next move is to set, work
towards and achieve your goals.
But one more important tip is to reward yourself for your
achievements each step along the way, whether you buy yourself a
gift, have a glass of champagne or an evening out!
Although the New Year is a great time to set challenges for the
future, it is great to review what you want to achieve at any time
of the year.
And if you need additional support to motivate you to achieve your
goals, this is where I can help.
Coaching gives you the space, time and tools to get really clear
about what you want. I can support you to remove any blocks or
barriers that have stopped you in the past and help you to move
forward to where you want to be. If you would like support to
achieve your goals, please get in touch.
